Fire And Rescue Department |

The Weatherford Fire Department has the best fire insurance rating of any
city under 50,000 in Oklahoma. This lofty, state-bestowed rating means that Weatherford
businesses and property owners can be assured they are saving money as they insure their
property against fire. Fourteen full-time and fifteen volunteer firefighters work at the
14,000 square foot headquarters at 118 North Kansas Street. Fourteen pieces of fire
equipment, including a new 5,000-gallon tanker and a brush pumper, are at the
firefighters disposal. Because of the high-rise buildings at the university, the
department also has three aerial trucks for high rise rescue and fire suppression.
When they are not training or responding to an emergency, Weatherford firefighters love to clown around-literally. During fire prevention week each fall, firefighters trade in their protective gear for clown garb, putting on shows in areas schools that illustrate fire prevention. Other aspects of community outreach include a smoke detector program, a bicycle rodeo for children, and an alcohol awareness program that Weatherford firefighters have performed to great acclaim in secondary schools around the state.
