Even a quick visit to the Great Plains Family YMCA at 1400 Airport Road
indicates the Y is living up to its mission statement: "We are an association of
persons of all ages, ethnic groups and religious affiliations. We are united in a common
effort to put Christian principles and values into practice and to enrich the quality of
life through programs that develop the mental, physical and spiritual potential of the
Great Plains Communities."
The spacious Y facilities include the Carl Dunn Aquatic Center, two gyms, and aerobics training room, an indoor running track, Olympic and Nautilus weight rooms, five racquetball courts, an indoor climbing wall, a conference room, a youth game room, a snack bar, lounge and locker rooms complete with sauna and hot tubs. YMCA-sponsored annual events include a Triathlon in June, a Chili Day fun run in December, a Halloween carnival, summer basketball camps, a fishing derby, and racquetball tournaments. The Y is an organization operated for and by its members. Its pledge is to meet the needs of members by providing quality programs, staff and facilities. Membership plans are available for families, individual adults, senior citizens, youth, college students and their families. school-age child care, racquetball, summer day camp, youth leadership clubs, computerized
fitness testing and wall climbing are just a few of the comprehensive program offerings.
